Alappuzha: An investigation based on a habeas corpus petition filed by family members of a woman has unearthed a 17-year-old-riddle with drama like real life events. The revelation has finally given an idea to the police and the family members of the woman about how she managed to live in Palakkad with the pretension that she was in Andhra Pradesh for around two decades.
In 2014, a woman from Alappuzha’s Mannancherry who was 26-year-old then informed her family that she is leaving for a teacher's job in Andhra Pradesh. She told them that she had reached there. However, after that she did not contact her family members and was absconding. In 2015, Aadhar card of the woman reached her residence in Alappuzha.
The family members noted that a relative’s name was added in the space of the husband's name in Aadhar. With this, the family developed doubts about the relative and it developed into a rift between them. The relative refuted the allegations made by the family and made it clear that the person in no way is aware of the woman. Following that, the investigation was pursued based on the phone number available from the Aadhar. However, it did not progress well.
Later it came to light that the the Aadhar was applied from Palakkad. Meanwhile, to pretend that the woman is Andhra Pradesh, she called his brother in the middle-east and other relatives from a phone booth in Andhra Pradesh. The woman also informed that she married a person in Andhra Pradesh. She also sent a photograph of her husband and children. However, with the doubt that the relative was secretly shielding the woman, the family filed a habeas corpus case in 2017. The court asked to investigate the case as the woman had been missing for 13 years.
During the investigation, it was found that the photograph sent by the woman to family members was fake. Similarly, it was found that the mobile phone of the relative was switched off in Palakkad. The police found that the relative used cyber technology to call the woman from secret numbers. The investigation also revealed that the woman along with her two children was staying in Palakkad only. She was produced before the Cherthala court. The woman was freed to live as per her will.
