Kollam: Aksano’s birthday falls on Sunday. He had decided to spend the day with his mother and siblings. Shattering all dreams and hopes, he breathed his last in an accident on the previous day. But his poor family was kind enough to donate his organs to five people.
Aksano (22) residing in Jonakappuram here met with an accident near Kochu Kodungalloor temple in Kollam on Tuesday night. He was travelling on his bike to pick his sister Josephine from textile showroom where she is working. The mishap occurred when a car collided with the bike.
Josephine was unaware of the incident and was walking along the road. As she noticed a crowd in the place, she inquired what happened and realised it was Aksano who met with the accident. With this, she rushed him to hospital with the help of locals.
As his condition was critical, they sought help of medical college superintendent Dr M S Sharmad. He arranged a special bed for Aksano and ensured treatment. Due to the serious head injury, Aksano was declared brain dead on Friday evening. On knowing this, Aksano’s mother Mary, sisters Josephine and Cinsy requested the doctor to donate his organs.
Thus the organ donation was completed with the help of Dr Noble Gracious, the state nodal officer of the organ sharing registry Mrithasanjeevani, transplant procurement manager Dr Anil Sathyadas, anaesthetist Dr Jayachandran, transplant coordinators P V Aneesh and S L Vinodkumar on Saturday.
Two kidneys were donated to Rohith and Subeesh who were undergoing treatment in the medical college, two heart valves were given to patients in Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and liver to a patient in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.
Aksano’s body was buried in Moothakkara Infant Jesus church on Saturday evening. He was working hard as electrician and fisherman to take care of the family after the demise of his father Anto. Aksano was living in a rented house in Moothakkara with family.
