AKG Centre bombing: Attacker familiar with location; police suspects involvement of more people

Thiruvananthapuram: Police officers probing the attack on CPM Kerala headquarters AKG Centre stated that assailants who hurled a bomb are familiar with the location. The authorities confirmed the presence of more than one person behind the attack. A bike found nearby during the time of attack also confirmed this suspicion.

However, the police are yet to identify the vehicle used by the attacker. They also have not provided details on what explosive was used. Police also suspect that the man was trained to hurl similar bombs.

The bomb was hurled near the gate for vehicle entry. CCTV here clearly recorded the attack. The attacker spent 1 minute 32 seconds scanning the area before hurling the bomb and fleeing the area. Police have also collected CCTV footage from nearby houses and shops.

The investigation team is led by City Police Commissioner Sparjan Kumar. Meanwhile, police have invoked section 436 of IPC and section 3(A) of the Explosive Substances Act in the case. Based on the charges, the culprit could face a maximum of 10 years jail term
