Palakkad: Two people died and at least four have been hospitalized following honeybee attack at different places in Palakkad on Tuesday. The attacks have been reported from Akathethara and Kozhinjampara regions.
The deceased are identified as Akathethara Chekkinipadam native Saravanan (46) and Kozhinjampara native Krishnan (50). Four in a family who suffered attack from honeybee in Akathethara region have been hospitalized and one among them has been transferred to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to locals, the flying eagle might have hit the big beehive in the house premises thus making the bees furious. This triggering the flies to attack Saravanan who was about to start a bike after discussing about a food catering work with the householders.
The swarm of bees mercilessly attacked him. Though he tried to escape from the bees by entering the house, they attacked him along with family members. Locals rushed to the spot but the swarm was so furious that they cannot enter premises of the house.
However, they used sacks and fire sticks to swat and wave off the swarm. The locals too got stung by the bees but not as severe as Saravanan and the other family members in the house. They rushed the individuals who suffered attack to hospital, but Saravanan succumbed.
Meanwhile, the deceased Krishnan was attacked by the swarm of bees while he was in a coconut plantation along with his friend. He was rushed to two hospitals, one after another. But he succumbed by noon.
