Kannur/Thrissur: Accused in gold smuggling and quotation cases, Akash Thillankeri and co-accused Jijo Thillankeri, booked under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA), were shifted to Viyyur Central Prison in Thrissur from Kannur Central Jail on Sunday evening.

The transfer was carried out as per the prison rules that KAAPA prisoners should not be housed in jails of their native districts. Along with Akash, five other inmates were also shifted to Viyyur.

According to the jail department rules, those charged with KAAPA from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur should be transferred to Kannur Central Jail and those from Kasaragod to Malappuram have to be shifted to Viyyur Jail.

Akash and Jijo were housed in the highly secured 10th block for the past three days. Special surveillance was also arranged to monitor them. They were booked under KAAPA after examining all the cases registered against them in the last four years.

As per police report, Akash and Jijo are accused in 14 and 23 cases respectively.
