New Delhi: Airports Authority chairman Sanjeev Kumar informed that the developmental works at Karipur airport will be initiated from December last by abandoning the plans to reduce the runway length. The Airport Authority is carrying out discussions with the state government to clear the technical glitches in the development of the airport.

Sanjeev Kumar revealed the details during a meeting with MP Abdusammad Samadani, who is chairman of the Karipur airport advisory committee.

Samadani handed over a letter to the Airport Authority requesting not to hinder development at Karipur airport. The Airport Authority had already cancelled the decision to shorten the runway by considering the pleas of people’s representatives and several organisations here. Samadani also demanded to resume the services of large aircrafts in Karipur.

Land acquisition

Chief Secretary declared that the contingency charge to commence procedures for land acquisition will be soon handed over to the Karipur airport authority. However, the airport authority will have to incur the expenses for RESA (Runway and Safety Area) extension, Chief Secretary told MK Raghavan MP.

The contingency charge worth Rs 50 lakh will be forwarded to the revenue department to initiate the procedures for land acquisition to facilitate RESA extension. MK Raghavan had earlier alleged that the delay in receiving the contingency fund slowed down the survey proceedings and the environmental impact assessment here.
