Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress is pressuring senior leader V. M. Sudheeran to contest the Assembly polls. P. V. Mohan and P. Viswanath, AICC observers appointed by the high command, met Sudheeran at his house here.
There was a demand within Congress to field Sudheeran in the Assembly election. It is learned that the AICC observers visited Sudheeran with this motive. After the meeting, Sudheeran said that it was only a friendly visit and that there was no discussion about him contesting in the Assembly election.
“I have been struggling with health problems for a while now. I have not completely recovered from Covid-19 related ailments. I have completed 25 years of Parliamentary life. So I had asked the Congress president not to consider me for the Assembly polls in the future. There is no change to my stance. The party leadership also knows it. There is a favourable situation for Congress and UDF. Candidates accepted by the people must be given chances in the polls,” said Sudheeran.
