Vaikom (Kottayam): An amount of Rs 10 crore has been allocated for the renovation of the Thanneermukkom Bund-Illikkal road ahead of the G20 meetings.

Kumarakom will host the second ‘Sherpa Meet' under India's G20 presidency from March 30-April 2. Meeting of the Development Working Group (DWG) is also scheduled in the town on the banks of Vembanad lake.

The road will be rebuilt using bituminous macadam bituminous concrete (BMBC). As of now, the stretch from Kaippuzhamuttu to Thanneermukkom Bund is already within BMBC standards.

Construction of the approach road to the Anchumana bridge is not complete due to differences of opinion among representatives. The parallel road will be paved with tiles to overcome this hurdle. This will solve the long-standing travel problems of the Vechur natives.

The PWD road division is in charge of the works.
