Kollam: Kerala Students Union (KSU) state representatives have resigned from their posts in protest of appointing Aloysius as the president of the organisation. He exceeds the age limit set by the organisation, they allege. A president who is older than the incumbent will weaken the organisation, they added. They have also taken the matter to the Congress leadership.
Two other names were also considered for the post. However, Aloysius was backed by Oommen Chandy. Leaders K Sudhakaran, KC Venugopal and VD Satheesan also reportedly agreed with the decision.
The resigned representatives said that KSU’s acceptance on campuses are increasing and that strong protests have to be organised considering today’s political climate. The new generation should have the opportunity to do it.
Time for at least three reorganisations have passed. If the age limit is ignored, older leaders will also have to be considered for the posts, they said. The priority should be the growth of the organisation and not the interest of the leaders, they said.
