Neeleshwaram: Years of long wait for Lakshmiyamma of Madikkai ended on a happy note at 7.30 pm on Wednesday. Her son, Mahendrakumar returned home from jail in Japan after 11 years.

Mahendran, on reaching home, first visited his father’s tomb and broke down. His father, KV Kumaran passed away last year, awaiting him, but without a last glimpse.

On entering inside the compound, he told his mother not to come close, due to Covid-19 issues.

“I waited this long just to see you,” Lakshmiyamma tried to control her tears, unsuccessfully. Many had assembled at the house to witness the happy reunion.

"I will prove my innocence through law. Need everyone’s support and prayers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lakshmiyamma lighted a diya and welcomed him home. He will be home quarantined for the next 7 days.

Mahendran had gone to Japan in 1997. He worked in a company there. Later he opened a hotel. He ended up in jail after intervening in a violent quarrel between some Malayali friends in 2008.
