Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala transport minister Antony Raju has asserted that the government didn’t seek the deployment of central forces to restore peace in Vizhinjam. He noted that Adani Group approached the High Court requesting the security cover of central forces in its port construction site.

He was addressing the media here on Saturday.

“ The government does not need to oppose Adani’s plea. The High Court should decide on the matter,” he added.

Reacting to Fr Theodacious D'Cruz’s remark against Fisheries Minister V Abdurahiman, he stated that no LDF minister ever termed protesters as terrorists.

He also criticised the opposition for attempting to hijack the Vizhinjam protest.

Meanwhile, the minister for port Ahammad Devarkovil expressed suspicion over the involvement of external forces in the protest against Vizhinjam port.

“ The fisherfolk is not ready to call off their protest even after the government accepted most of their demands. They are repeatedly demanding to stop the construction,” he added.
