Actress attack case: SC instructs to complete trial within 6 months
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday instructed the trial court to complete the trial in the actress attack case within six months. The bench including justices A M Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheswari said that if possible the trial should be completed in six months. SC was considering the petition filed by Dileep seeking the copy of the memory card containing attack visuals.
Supreme Court decided that a copy of the attack visuals needn’t be handed over to Dileep. However, he can examine whether the visuals have been sabotaged with the help of independent agencies including Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL). The experts selected by Dileep can prepare topics for examination. As per CFSL report, witnesses can be trialed. However, the report can be examined only by the accused and the persons entrusted by them, SC observed.
Dileep can demand to the Magistrate to see the visuals. He can view the visuals in presence of lawyers or IT experts. However, this provision shouldn’t be delayed. Also the court should make sure that the visuals are not copied or recorded, SC further instructed.
