Kochi: Kerala High Court questioned the state government over the probe into the actress attack case. The court asked the DGP to report on the official who is in charge of the probe. He has been asked to give a reply before May 19. A remark from the court came while hearing a petition filed in court against the removal of former crime branch chief S Sreejith from his office.

The division bench sought the reply while considering a plea against removal of ADGP S Sreejith from the post of Crime Branch chief. The court observed that DGP Anilkanth has earlier announced the name of S Sreejith as head of the investigation while announcing the probe team in the actress attack case. However, it has come to the court's attention that he was later removed from his office. Therefore, the court demanded an answer on who is in charge of the probe team.

Meantime, the lawyer representing the state government reiterated that S Sreejith was appointed as head of the investigation as a result of being the head of the crime branch. However, he does not hold the office, the lawyer added. The court was satisfied with the reply from the lawyer and sought an explanation from the state police chief.
