New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed actor Dileep’s plea seeking not to examine the witnesses, including Manju Warrier, in connection with the 2017 actress assault case.
The court bench, headed by Justice JK Maheshwari, accepted the survivor’s assertion that the accused cannot decide who should be examined and directed to complete the trial quickly.
Appearing for the survivor, senior advocate R Basanth stated that the delay in the completion of the trial should not create a situation wherein the accused decides which witnesses should be examined.
Considering the plea filed by Dileep, the eighth accused in the case, seeking to expedite the trial proceedings, the apex court directed to submit the progress report of the trial by March 24.
Meanwhile, the High Court postponed the witness examination of Manju Warrier to February 21. The witness examination was to be conducted on Thursday.
