Kochi: Actor-producer Vijay Babu has landed in Kochi. He is wanted by Kerala Police for a sexual assault case filed against him by an actor.
He left for Dubai in April, almost the same time when the survivor approached the police. However, he pleaded in the court while seeking the anticipatory bail that he was not aware of the case while leaving the country.
Vijay Babu did not react positively to the demand of the police to return to the state. He pushed his return from his ‘business tour’ several times. Meanwhile, the court granted a temporary relief from arrest on Tuesday paving way for his return. While hearing the matter on Tuesday, Single Bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas noted: "If I refuse to grant him interim bail now, he will remain abroad and elusive. How many people have been elusive in our country? Several agencies have been trying, but have they been successful? This is what I'm trying to avoid here."
He may make himself available for quizzing in the case. Police maintain that the evidence against the actor is strong.
The Court will again take up the bail plea on June 2.
