Actor and mimicry artiste Kalabhavan Abi passes away

Noted actor and mimicry artiste Kalabhavan Abi passed away today at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 52. He was under treatment for leukemia (blood cancer) for the past two years.

He was taken to Amrita Hospital at around 8 am in the morning after he complained of uneasiness. Doctors confirmed death after half an hour.

He will be laid to rest at Muvattupuzha Perumattom Juma Masjid at 5 pm. His body will be kept at his residence in Pathalam for the public to pay homage from 3 pm to 4 pm..

Abi, whose real name is Habeeb Ahamed, has acted in over 50 films. His son Shane Nigam is an emerging actor. Abi has brought to life the character of Thaatha, known for quick wits and slapstick comedies.

His popular movies are Kireedamillatha Rajakkanmar, Aniyathipravu, Mazhavil Koodaram and Rasikan. He is survived by wife Sunila and children Ahana, Aleena and Shane Nigam.

Abi is known for his ability to mimic the voice of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. He has lent his voice to Malayalam version of commercials featuring Amitabh Bachchan.

Actor Jagadish, condoling the death, said that he was a man who ventured into a different path. The death of a man who brought new ideas and innovations, is a great loss to the cinema field.

On hearing the demise of Abi, actor Harisree Ashokan said that he knows him for many years in the mimicry field. He used to dub superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s voice to perfection.
