Employees keeping away from service for long period affect the functioning of the department and also deny the rights to the public for proper health care.

Thiruvananthapuram: The health department has decided to dismiss from service the employees who are on unauthorised leave. Helath minister K K Shailaja said that the action is against those employees who have not re-joined the service even after giving opportunity twice and who have not produced any relevant reason for keeping away from the service.

480 employees including 430 doctors will be expelled from service. This list of doctors includes 53 doctors who completed the probationary period and 377 who are under probation.

Apart from doctors 6 health inspectors, 4 pharmacists, 1 Filaria inspector, 20 staff nurses, 1 nursing assistant, 3 dental hygienists, 2 lab technicians, 3 radiographers, 2 optometrists, 2 hospital attenders, 3 record librarians, 1 PHN tutor and 2 clerks will also face action.

Employees keeping away from service for long period affect the functioning of the department and also deny the rights to the public for proper health care. Allowing these employees in service will result in loss of opportunity of others. Hence it was decided to take action against them, minister said.

Last year 36 doctors were expelled from medical education department for not appearing for duty.
