Accused of copying, college student commits suicide in Kollam
Kollam: Rakhi Krishna, a first year English literature degree student at Fathima College in Kollam died after she was hit by a running train. There have been wide allegations against the college authority for mentally harassing the girl for allegedly copying in exams. The police sources have confirmed the death to be a suicide.
The teachers were stopped at the college entrance by a group of students who staged protests over the girl’s death. Fathima Matha college is run an autonomous body. The students were taking the semester exams and in between the girl was caught for alleged copying. The invigilator presented the girl at once before the anti-copying squad.
The squad members and other teachers allegedly harassed the girl and also bullied her, report sources. Besides, her photo was also taken. The girl ran out of the college, unable to stand the bullying, and jumped in front of a running train near SN College.
The college authorities have not responded to the incident. A police team have camped at the place. The police have talked to the teachers and students.
The body of the girl has been kept in cold storage at the general hospital mortuary in Kollam.
