Accused in UAPA case not innocent: Pinarayi Vijayan
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan once again justified the arrest of the two youth who were arrested under UAPA in Pantheeramkavu in Kozhikode. Alan Shuhaib and Thaha Fasal were arrested here for distributing pro-Maoist pamphlets.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Chief Minister stated that it is rumoured that the youth are innocent.
“There is no need to think that they are innocent and not involved in any crime. They were not arrested while having tea somewhere,” said the Chief Minister.
“Most of the people think charging UAPA case against the duo was serious mistake. But the government has not taken such a stand. The government is against UAPA but there are many cases which came under UAPA during LDF reign. NIA took over the case as per UAPA rules,” explained Pinarayi Vijayan.
At the same time, he slammed BJP MP GVL Narasima Rao for submitting a petition to initiate breach of Parliament privileges and contempt proceedings against him.
“The assembly has its own powers. We cannot just stand there in helplessness. There is nothing illegal in the resolution on CAA,” added the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Pinarayi Vijayan he noted that the government issued ordinance in the church row between orthodox and Jacobite factions as there was no hope for conciliation.
