Accused in sensational Shan Babu murder case escapes from Kottayam prison

Kottayam: An accused in a murder case escaped from the Kottayam sub-jail on Saturday early morning. Police have initiated an intense search to nab Binumon, who is the fifth accused in the case pertaining to the murder of a youth in Kottayam.

Meenadam native Binumon was remanded in the murder of Shan Babu, whose mortal remains were later dumped near the police station by another accused KT Jomon. Binumon was the driver of the auto-rickshaw used to abduct Shan Babu before his murder.

As Binumon was not involved in any other cases and by considering his good conduct, the prison officials had employed him in the kitchen. It has been alleged that Binumon, who reached the kitchen on Saturday morning escaped by jumping off the wall using wooden planks kept there.

Police inferred that the accused might not have left the town yet as the search had been intensified in the city and surroundings.

Binumon’s wife had arrived in the jail to visit him on the previous day. He had said to his wife that he should come out of prison as soon as possible, reported police. Hence, police have escalated the search by concentrating on his native place Meenadam.
