Five killed in bus-car collision at Thopramkudy in Idukki

The condition of two others who were admitted to the hospital is reported to be serious.

Kattappana: Five persons, including four members of a family, were killed in a collision involving a private bus and a car at Pushpagiri in Thopramkudy here around 4.30 pm on Friday.

At the time of the accident, a total of 11 persons were travelling in the car.

Six persons, including three children, have been admitted to hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Kanjirappally natives Shaju (45), his wife Jaynamma (34), his one-and-a-half-year-old son Ivan, Shaju’s mother Achamma (70) and driver Tijo.

Of them, three died on the spot while the rest succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.

Shaju runs a PDS shop near Kanjirappally bus stand.

The accident happened when they were returning home after visiting their relatives at Murikkassery. Eyewitnesses say the car rammed into the bus coming from the opposite while attempting to overtake an autorickshaw.

Local residents and auto drivers, who reached the spot soon after the accident, carried out the rescue efforts.

The bodies are kept at Kattappana St John’s hospital.
