Orkkatteri: The police have apprehended a person who had been on the run for the past 27 years in an abkari case.

Chittuparambil Ouseph Joseph (56), a native of Perumbavoor, was a suspect in the abkari case registered by the Edacheri police in 1996. With the assistance of Kodanad police, he was finally caught.

Ouseph Joseph was first arrested for smuggling liquor from Mahe. He went absconding after getting bail.

The accused has been arrested now based on the SP’s order to strengthen probe in long pending cases.

The accused was produced at Vadakara judicial first class magistrate and remanded.
