Abhimanyu’s house nearing completion, CM to hand over keys
The construction of Abhimanyu's house is progressing at Vattavada in Munnar, the one he had dreamt of constructing by studying well and securing a job. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hand over the key to the family once the finishing touches are completed.
Abhimanyu, a BSc Chemistry student of Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam and an SFI activist was allegedly stabbed to death by SDPI-Popular Front-Campus Front activists on July 2 early morning. The murder created headlines on all news media. The dire straits of the family eking out a living by farming also came out and people realised that the family was robbed off their only hope for a better future.
The CPIM recognised what Abhimanyu had gone through to get to Maharajas College from Vattavada and took up the responsibilities of the family. The party bought a plot of land near Kottakamboor and started building a house for the slain comrade.
CPIM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on September 5 laid the foundation stone for the 1,256 square feet house. The three-bedroom house has all modern facilities. All remaining works, including painting, will be completed by December 20. The key handing over ceremony will be held by December end to comply with the CM’s schedule.
