Abhimanyu murder: DGP questions accused, NIA probes terrorist links
Kochi: Police is assuming terrorist links for the accused in the murder of SFI leader Abhimanyu at Maharaja’s College.
DGP Loknath Behera has sought legal advice for charging the accused under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Meanwhile NIA is also probing the their alleged links to terror groups.
Behera reached the central station where the accused are kept and questioned them. He also conducted discussions with probe team.
It has been established that person named Muhammad had stabbed Abhimanyu.
DGP told media that conspiracy has been confirmed in the case. He discussed the legal side with Director General of Prosecution Manjeri Sreedharan Nair at the High Court. He also conducted discussions with Advocate General.
Police is of the opinion that the accused has connection with those involved in the palm chopping case of TJ Joseph, teacher at Thoduppuzha Newman College.
Investigating agencies believe that the murder was pre-planned jointly by SDPI and Popular Front. Police is also questioning those involved in terrorist cases earlier.
NIA Kochi unit is probing the alleged links to terror groups. For this they have consulted the police for primary information.
Six people have been arrested in connection the case till now. The three arrested have been given in police custody.
