Kozhikode: The police have planned to take stringent action against the organizations SDPI and Popular Front across the state. The move comes amidst establishing that SDPI workers are behind the murder of SFI leader Abhimanyu in Maharajas College.
The State Police Chief Loknath Behera has directed formation of special squads under the leadership of Circle Inspectors within Friday and to take further actions. Also he has issued guidelines to intensify police checking in the coming days.
The police can search any place with the permission of the court. The government has authorized the home department to search any institutions or residences relating to SDPI workers. Also the troublesome persons can be kept in preventive detention.
The search operation can be continued in the night hours as well. The police can use search memorandum filed in the court instead of warrant during the search as there are chances of the accused escaping from the scene in case of any delay in the procedure.
The search should be headed by any officer in the rank of SI, CI or DySP. The search team should consist of 2 women police officers, 3 civil police officers and an SI. A search list should be prepared including the places and objects subjected to inspection. In case a search is conducted in the night, the search list has to be submitted the next day.
The police also have been directed to make a list of the parties which includes SDPI - Popular Front workers and also those who are involved in any previous cases. They will be summoned to police stations to record their statements. Some of the SDPI workers are involved in crimes like jewellery theft, hawala scams, possession of weapons and drug smuggling.
Meanwhile, the intelligence wing of the police is investigating about the illegal assets of SDPI workers and the spies in the police force who leak information to the party workers. The sources of the illegal assets are still unknown. A former police official has said that there is a flow of fund from the Gulf countries.
