Kozhikode: Opposition leader VD Satheesan on Monday slammed sports minister V Abdurahiman over the latter's statement regarding the price hike of the India-Sri Lanka ODI match held in Karyavattom.
He said that the government should have taken up the responsibility of making the India-Sri Lanka ODI match held at Karyavattom a success. Satheesan also said that the low turnout on the matchday was the reaction to the minister challenging the conscience of the people.
About the entertainment tax on ticket rates of India-Sri Lanka ODI match, Abdurahiman had said that people who were starving need not watch the game.
Majority of the seats in the stadium remained vacant for the third and final ODI in the series that was held on Sunday.
Talking to the media in Kozhikode, Satheesan asked the minister to retract the statement and apologise. The minister, who treated the starving people with contempt, should not continue in the post, Satheesan said.
The opposition leader also questioned the government regarding goons and the controversies that surfaced in Alappuzha. The Congress leader pointed out that an intelligence report has come out stating that even police officers were linked with goon-drug mafias.
Satheesan said the party was becoming police and the court in these issues. He also asked if a warning was the right punishment for a man who allegedly captured obscene visuals of women on his mobile phone in Alappuzha. The main accused in the drug case has also not been arrested, he claimed.
The Congress leader said the chief minister was staying silent on these matters. If the CPM does not sever its ties with anti-social groups, the UDF will go ahead with protests, he added.
