Thiruvananthapuram: CPM leader and Rajya Sabha MP AA Rahim has criticised the union government for appointing retired Supreme Court judge S Abdul Nazeer as the new governor of Andhra Pradesh.

In a Facebook post shared on Sunday, the DYFI national president opined that the union government's move does not adhere to constitutional values. He also suggested he decline the offer.

He added that we could not forfeit our trust in the legal system in the country.

"Justice Syed Abdul Nazir retired from the Supreme Court on January 4. It's barely six weeks today. It should be remembered that he was a member of the bench that gave the final verdict in the Ayodhya case," he wrote.

He added that such decisions of the union government are a stain on Indian democracy.
