Kannur: Now, Aadhar card is a must for all visitors to Kerala jail. The move comes after a Union Home Ministry order on February 17 and based on this, the state ADGP R Sreelekha issued a circular to all jail superintendents on Friday. The new order comes after the police feel that persons with terror links are visiting jail inmates and handing over crucial information.
The Prison department authorities have said only those having Aadhaar card would be allowed to meet the jail inmates. The prisoners coming to meet their near ones in jail will have to bring the Aadhaar card with them and this will be made compulsory within 10 days. When a person is lodged in jail, the details of those who are likely to visit him during the period, will be collected by the jail authorities. Their relationship, status and other details will be sought. And only those whose names are recorded will be allowed to visit the inmates.
All visitors will be advised to discuss only family and their individual issues. Talks on jail discipline, other jail inmates or politics will not be entertained. Only 3 visits in a month will be allowed. The circular also states that efforts must be made to try to bring back the jail inmates to their normal life.
