New Delhi: Rajya Sabha member AA Rahim on Tuesday wrote a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting him to intervene in the issue of the “xenophobic attack” on Delhi University students from Kerala.

"I wish to bring to your attention the issue of a xenophobic attack on students from Kerala studying in Delhi University. It is alleged that an intoxicated gang targetted the students based on their attire and then physically assaulted them," he said in the letter.

Later, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, the Rajya Sabha MP said that the students were attacked for "wearing lungi". He said that the students who were attacked are undergoing treatment.

In his letter, he called for measures to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident. He added that steps must be taken to ensure that the campus and surroundings were a safe space for the students.

"I request your urgent intervention to ensure that the culprits of the xenophobic assault are brought to justice," Rahim said in his letter to the union minister.
