A selfless act costs Anil his life

Kozhikode: Kozhikode Eranhikkal native NT Anil Kumar, who died of symptoms similar to rat fever, was active in the rescue efforts during the flood havoc times.

Anil Kumar and team were busy in the camps when most of the houses in the corporation 3rd division were submerged in water. Anil, an employee at the Karannoor Service Cooperative Bank, was in the forefront of all activities in his region. But, he became tired after the rescue mission.

Though he thought that it was an ordinary fever which persisted for two days, he was taken to the Iqraa Hospital in Kozhikode on August 25. He was then shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College on 26. He was treated there for 10 days. He died as his condition worsened yesterday.

Even though the disease of Anil Kumar wasn’t confirmed as rat fever, the symptoms were similar. The people in this region have become anxious after this as many have been part of the rehabilitation and cleaning. 16 people died in Kozhikode, where the highest number of cases were reported. 6 among them were confirmed of rat fever. 142 people are being treated at the medical college. 38 among them have been diagnosed of rat fever.

Anil Kumar is the son of late Imbichi and Devaki. He is survived by his wife Sreeja.
