Kochi: Amid facing criticism over the recurring waterlogging issue in Kochi, Minister P Rajeev claimed that a lasting solution for the issue will consume time. He said that the immediate measures to resolve the current situation are in progress.
The municipality has just begun the tender procedures for 'Operation Vahini'. The project was launched to clear all the obstructions along the Periyar river, Muvattupuzha river and its tributaries.
Rain lashed the state unexpectedly before the completion of it. The Minister added that the project was successful in the places where it launched. The authorities are unable to convene meetings as there is a model code of conduct existing prior to the bypoll.
The Minister assured to issue notices to demolish the slabs in the streets that were constructed by obstructing the flow of excess water. The induction of the new project along with these measures will be a permanent solution for waterlogging in Kochi, said the Minister. The latest budget has set aside Rs 3.75 crore for this.
‘Even if the Minister visits the flooded regions, the surging water level will not halt,’ added the Minister.
