Kochi: The Forest Flying Squad seized 93kg of sandalwood pieces from a house in Panampilly Nagar on Saturday. Five people were arrested from the spot in connection with the incident. They were nabbed while trying to sell sandalwood, which is estimated to cost around Rs 10 lakh.

Saju Sebastian (53), Nishadh Sreedharan (48), Roy Chacko (54), Sajan Gopi (46) and Sinu Thomas (42) were arrested by a team of the flying squad from Ernakulam.

The sandalwood, each one-two feet in length, was found wrapped in a plastic bag. It is learned that Saju Sebastian is the prime accused in the case. Sinu Thomas was his accomplice and was nabbed while trying to sell sandalwoods to buyers from Angamaly.

Saju has revealed that the sandalwood was from a house in Idukki. However, the authorities are examining whether it was from the forest.
