Kochi: Many places in Kochi were waterlogged in the heavy rain on a single night. 87 houses in P&T Colony in Ernakulam were partially submerged in the water. Though the police and Tehsildar arrived to relocate the colony residents, they did not cooperate with them.
The colony dwellers said they have been requesting for a permanent solution to the waterlogging issue for many years instead of making temporary arrangements. However, the suggestions put forward always falls on deaf ears. The attitude did not change this year too, they said.
Even if they agreed to relocate temporarily, they will have to return to the same place. That is why they are protesting against the efforts to shift them temporarily. Discussions are progressing under the leadership of Tehsildar to resolve the issue.
The colony residents alleged that the people's representatives never intervened in the issue. The construction of the houses offered by the government has not been complete yet. So, they are not willing to relocate temporarily. The people demanded that the government should inform their decision in writing.
