82 COVID-19 cases in Kerala on Monday; 73 test negative
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala confirmed 82 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday while 73 tested negative, informed Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in an official press release.
Out of the new cases, 13 are from Ernakulam district, 11 are from Pathanamthitta, 10 each are from Kottayam and Ernakulam, 7 are from Palakkad, 6 each are from Malappuram and Kozhikode, 5 are from Alappuzha, 4 are from Kollam, 3 each are from Thrissur and Kasaragod, 2 are from Idukki and 1 each are from Thiruvananthapuram (patient who died on June 12) and Wayanad.
The test result of Thiruvananthapuram Vanchiyoor native S. Rameshan (67), who died on June 12, came out positive. Rameshan had been undergoing treatment for heart and lung related ailments. With this, the death toll increased to 20.
49 of the 82 cases had returned from abroad (UAE -19, Kuwait -12, Saudi Arabia – 9, Qatar- 5, Oman – 2, Nigeria – 2) while 23 had returned from other states (Maharashtra – 13, Tamil Nadu -4, Delhi – 3, Rajasthan – 1, West Bengal -1, Telangana - 1).
9 persons contracted the virus through contact (2 each from Kottayam, Palakkad, Alappuzha, and Thrissur and 1 from Malappuram).
The 73 persons tested negative on Monday include 21 from Kannur, 12 from Palakkad, 11 from Kollam, 10 from Malappuram, 6 from Thrissur, 4 each from Kozhikode and Kasaragod, 3 from Thiruvananthapuram and 2 from Ernakulam.
At present, there are 1,348 active coronavirus cases in the state while 1,174 recovered.
So far, 2,47,641 persons have returned to Kerala. Among them, 75,656 came in flights, 1,621 in ships, 1,42,388 through check posts while 27,976 came in trains.
As many as 1,29,971 persons who completed their 14-day quarantine have been removed from observation. 1,20,727 persons are kept under observation out of which 1,18,704 are in home/institutional quarantine while 2,023 are in hospitals. 219 persons were admitted to hospitals on Monday.
A total of 4,491 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, the CM said and added that 1,14,753 samples including augmented samples were sent for the test till date. Out of this, 1,996 results are awaited. Out of the 31,424 samples collected through sentinel surveillance, 29, 991 tested negative. In all, 1,51,686 samples were sent for tests.
The number of hotspots in the state has increased to 125. Five areas were declared as hotspots on Monday. They are Alagappa Nagar, Vellangallur and Tholur in Thrissur district, Kinanoor-Karindalam in Kasaragod and Thalassery in Kannur district.
Two areas – Vandazhi and Puthunagaram in Palakkad district – have been removed from the list of hotspots.
