Nilambur: Seven employees of Nilambur KSRTC depot were suspended for undertaking service with one of the four wheels missing in the rear. The decision was taken after an enquiry of the incident revealed that there was serious misconduct and breach of discipline from the staff.

The incident happened on October 7, 2021. The bus which left for Kozhikode at 6 am was later found to have one tyre in the rear side missing. During the journey, the driver and conductor heard a loud noise from behind and realized the error. KSRTC was forced to refund the ticket fare as there was no other service on that route. Following this, an investigation was held.

The day before the incident the bus underwent repair at the bus depot. The duty chargeman instructed the mechanics to adjust the spring set of the bus but failed to add it to the logsheet. The tyre inspector, who suggested removing one tyre of the bus, failed to add the details into the logsheet. The driver also failed to notice the error.

However, Kerala State Transport Workers Union ( KSTWU) alleged that the suspension for the staff was politically motivated and action was taken excluding some.
