7 RSS activists get life imprisonment for murdering CPM worker
Kannur: The Thalassery additional district sessions court sentenced seven RSS activists for life imprisonment for murdering CPM activist Parakkandy Pavithran (52) of Namath Mukku in Ponniam. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the convicts.
The seven convicts are RSS-BJP activists C.K Prasanth (36) of Ponniam, Laijesh alias Laiju (39) of Namath Mukku in Ponniam, Parayikkandi Vineesh (35), Prasanth alias Muthu (39) of Kunduchira in Ponniam, K.C Anilkumar (51) of Moonnammile in Ponniam, Vijilesh (35) of Laksham Veed Colony in Eranjoli Malal. K. Mahesh (38) of Eranjolippalam. The fourth accused Jyothish died during trial.
The murder took place near Namath Mukku anganwadi at 5.45 am on November 6, 2007. Pavithran, who was carrying milk, was chased by a group of attackers carrying sharp weapons. Pavithran ran into the house of Mundany Rajan in an effort to save himself. However, the attackers followed and hacked him down. He was taken to a private hospital in Kozhikode where he succumbed to the injuries on November 10.
Pavithran’s family had moved out of their house in Namath Mukku following the murder.
