7 kg of gold, Rs 18,000 looted from co-op bank in Palakkad
Palakkad: An incident of robbery was reported at a cooperative bank at Chandranagar here on Monday morning. Over seven kilograms of gold and Rs 18,000 were robbed from the bank locker after breaking it.
The robbery took place at Marutha Road Co-operative Rural Credit Society. The employees found the locker broken when the bank was opened on Monday morning.
The gold looted from the bank was pledged by people who took loan. The bank is governed by a Congress-led body.
The administrative panel had a meeting on Friday before the bank was closed for bank holidays. Since the bank was closed for two days, it is not clear when the robbery took place.
The wires of the CCTV camera was cut and the burglars broke into the Strong Room using a glass cutter. The memory card of the CCTV was also found stolen.
A team of fingerprint experts also rushed to the crime scene. Bank officials reported that no other bank documents were found stolen.
