68-yr-old Covid affected man dies in ambulance without getting treatment in Kollam
Kollam: In a tragic incident, a 68-year-old Covid affected man, who was being taken to Parippally Government Medical College, Kollam in an ambulance, died without getting treatment on time. The deceased was identified as Babu, a native of Parippally. The incident happened on September 25 at 11:00 PM.
It is learnt that the family had to wait before the hospital in the ambulance for over half an hour to get medical help. The health workers had informed the medical college about the case prior to bringing him to the hospital.
Babu’s condition was deteriorating when he was brought to hospital. The oxygen level was below 60 percent. Though onlookers alerted the authorities, it took another 15 minutes when health workers in PPE kit arrived. By that time Babu died and a verbal spat between onlookers and hospital employees escalated. The video of the incident went viral on social media. Police had to intervene to bring things under control.
Meanwhile, police have filed a suo moto case over the incident. After preparing the inquest report, the body has been shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
Babu and other family members were suffering from Covid-19. He was staying with his daughter Shiny in Paravoor.
