57th State School Art Festival to open in Kannur today
Kannur: Stage has been set for the 57th State School Kalolsavam, the biggest art festival in Asia, in Kannur.
The event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 4 pm today at the main venue named Nila at the Police Ground. Renowned playback singer K S Chitra will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.
Over 12,000 participants will compete in 232 categories including 172 stage events. The festival is being held adhering to the green protocol. The venues are named after major rivers of Kerala.
The District Administration has launched a mobile application ‘School Kalolsavam 2017’ to provide information on programme schedule, accommodation arrangements, parking areas, contact details, image gallery, events search etc.
The IT@School project has also readied a mobile app ‘Poomaram’ with details of competitions at various venues, contests to be held and their scheduled time. It will also have live streaming of contests. The apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
Kannur Initiative for Rehabilitation Palliative Care (IRPC) help desk has started functioning. The help desk provides facilities like cloak room, reception and drinking water. Ports Minister Kadannapally Ramachandran is the programme committee chairman.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) will monitor the festival in order to curb malpractices.
