55 sacks of ration cereals seized from former CPI panchayat member’s residence
Kollam: The police seized 55 sacks of food grains for ration supply from the residence of a former CPI panchayat member in Karunagappalli. The grains were seized from the house of former member of Thazhava panchayat Sheeja Nizam. On knowing about the police raid, her husband and CPI local committee member Kadathoor native Nizam fled from the scene.
A total of 55 sack full of cereals were kept in the house and in a car. Among this, 53 sacks were full of rice and two sacks contained wheat. The raid was conducted by Karunagappalli SI Sivakumar and team on Monday at 11 pm.
When the police arrived, some people were unloading the sacks from a minivan. They left the place after seeing the police. On Tuesday, Karunagappalli Taluk Supply Officer and team confirmed that it was ration products. However, the source of the items was not identified.
The rice and wheat were handed over to Taluk Supply Officer. The police took into custody the minivan and registered a case against Nizam as per Rationing Act. The raid was conducted based on a secret information received by Karunagappalli ACP.
