537 people fined for helmetless pillion riding; Kasaragod tops list
Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 537 persons were fined on Tuesday for travelling on the pillion seat without helmet in the state. Rs 500 was levied as fine for this offence. The highest number of persons fined were in Kasaragod. In total, 62 persons were fined there for not wearing helmet while riding pillion.
The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) levied Rs 5.23 lakh as fine from 1046 persons who travelled on two wheelers without helmet. In most of the cases, pillion riders without helmet were nabbed by the police. Also 150 people who did not wear seatbelt were fined. Action was taken against 17 contract carriage buses.
A total of 39 persons were fined for riding on pillion seat without helmet in Thiruvananthapuram, 34 in Kollam, 20 in Pathanamthitta, 32 in Alappuzha, 59 in Kottayam, 9 in Idukki, 59 in Ernakulam, 58 in Thrissur, 19 in Palakkad, 49 in Malappuram, 36 in Kozhikode, 14 in Wayanad, 47 in Kannur and 62 in Kasaragod.
