Vengara: Police arrested a gang for money fraud. The modus operandi is eating food from restaurants and seeking refunds by claiming food poisoning. Ibrahim (33), Abdu Rahman (29), Rumees (23), Sudheesh (23) and Nasim (21) were arrested in this regard.
The five-member gang visited Cake Cafe in Vengara the other day and ate broasted chicken from there. They ate up everything except the last piece of chicken, called up the hotel staff and claimed that it had turned stale. The gang left the place with the owner’s number and later phoned the owner saying he will have to pay Rs 40,000 or otherwise they would file a complaint.
After bargaining, they decided to settle for Rs 25,000 to not file a complaint. The gang also threatened to spread fake news about the hotel on social media. The gang upon questioning confessed that they had a part in closing down another hotel in Vengara three weeks back.
