Kozhikode: Police filed case against a man based on a neighboring woman’s complaint after 5 of the pet cats that returned from his house started dying one after another. Medical College Police filed the case on the basis of charges related to animal cruelty.

Mundikkalthazham native EK Hena filed the police complaint after she was distressed by the death of her dear cats. Hena and her children, Dr. E Midhun and E Sona, are deeply saddened by the sudden death of their pet cats.

A black cat that returned from the neighbour’s house on February 1, died immediately. The brown and white colored cats started foaming in the mouth and died the next day. The fourth cat died the very next day after this. The complainant stated that the accused buried the fifth cat after it died on their house premises.

Hena filed the complaint with the police after the fourth cat died. She said that the neighbor once threatened that he would poison the cats while complaining about the increasing nuisance caused by them. When they took the first cat to a veterinary doctor, he raised suspicion that the death could have been caused by poisoning.

An autopsy was done only on the fourth cat as other cats were buried immediately after death. The cause of death will be revealed only after the result of sample sent for chemical test comes out, the veterinary surgeon stated.
