5,032 new COVID-19 cases reported in Kerala on Tuesday; 4,735 recoveries

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 5,032 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, informed Health Minister K K Shailaja.

The district wise distribution of positive cases is: Kottayam - 695, Malappuram - 694, Thrissur - 625, Ernakulam - 528, Kozhikode - 451, Palakkad - 328, Kollam - 317, Wayanad – 284, Thiruvananthapuram - 272, Alappuzha - 241, Pathanamthitta – 238, Kannur - 207, Kasaragod – 79 and Idukki – 73.

60,521 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 8.31 percent. So far, 67,02,885 samples were tested in different priority groups.

31 deaths were confirmed in the state on Tuesday by NIV Alappuzha. With this, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 2,472.

Out of the total number of positive cases, 98 people came from outside the state. 4,380 people contracted the virus through contact. The virus source of 517 cases has not been identified.

The district wise statistics of contact cases are: Kottayam - 694, Malappuram - 653, Thrissur - 592, Ernakulam - 415, Kozhikode - 412, Palakkad - 160, Kollam - 315, Wayanad – 269, Thiruvananthapuram - 169, Alappuzha - 226, Pathanamthitta – 171, Kannur - 178, Kasaragod – 77 and Idukki – 49.

37 health workers tested COVID positive on Tuesday. The district wise cases of COVID positive health workers are: Thrissur and Kannur – 7 each, Thiruvananthapuram – 6, Ernakulam and Wayanad – 5 each, Kozhikode – 3, Pathanamthitta and Palakkad – 2 each.

4,735 people have recovered from the disease. The district wise statistics of negative cases are: Thiruvananthapuram - 350, Kollam - 269, Pathanamthitta - 159, Alappuzha - 361, Kottayam - 460, Idukki - 72, Ernakulam - 403, Thrissur - 700, Palakkad - 383, Malappuram - 719, Kozhikode – 421, Wayanad - 125, Kannur – 158 and Kasaragod - 155.

Currently, there are 59,732 people undergoing treatment in the state. 5,82,351 people have recovered from the disease.

3,10,345 people are under observation across various districts in the state. Out of this, 2,96,204 people are in home/institutional quarantine and 14,141 people are in hospitals. 1,273 people were taken to hospitals on Tuesday.

One new hotspot was identified in the state on Tuesday while 8 areas were removed from the list. In total, there are 441 hotspots in Kerala.
