46 lakh wells in state dry up fast
Alappuzha: The State Groundwater Department has found that 46 lakh wells which are in use in Kerala are drying up fast. Most of the cases were reported in Kasaragod and Wayanad.
The study pointed out that more care should be given in Enmakaje, Mangalpady, Kumbla, Vorkady, Badiyadka, Chengala, Kuttikole, Karadka, Udma, Pallikkara, Ajanur, Kayyur, Cheemeni, Kallar, Kodom-Belur, Panathadi village panchayats and Nileswaram municipality.
The situation is not different in Kottayam, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur districts. It was also found that such a situation is first in the span of 10 years. Experts opine that even though the state governement introduced schemes to preserve water in wells, many of them didn’t get much results.
