500 kg of stale meat stored to make Shawarma seized from Kalamassery


Kochi: 500 kg of unhygienic and stale poultry meat was seized from a house in Kalamassery on Thursday. The food and safety officials uncovered the large quantities of stale meat stored to be sold to various hotels for making Shawarma.

The meat was stored in the freezers at a house in Kaipadamugal near the HMT junction. The foul smell started to emerge upon opening the freezer, said officials.

Meanwhile, several reports indicate that stale meat is brought into the state for sale at hotels. 500 kg of meat was seized from the house rented by Junaise, a Malappuram native.
