4 men go missing in sea in TVM; 2 bodies recovered
Thiruvananthapuram: Four men who ventured into the sea at Adimalathura-Azhimala beach for bathing went missing on Thursday. Among them, bodies of two were recovered from Vizhinjam area on Friday morning. The deceased are identified as Pulluvila natives Johnson Cleetus (24) and Manu Napoleon (23).
The four had been washed away around 6.30 pm on Thursday. A team of 10 members including the four reached at the beach around 3.30 pm. Around 5.30 pm, they reached Azhimala beach.
At first, one among the four ventured into the sea for bathing, said a fisherman who witnessed the accident. The other three men jumped into the sea to save the man who was caught in the turbulent waves. Unfortunately, the high tides dragged them into the sea. They could not be saved despite continuous efforts by their friends. One among them also suffered a knee injury.
Some natives informed Vizhinjam police after the friends raised an alarm. Following this, a team of police led by SI Saji SS, fire force and coastal police inspector H Anil Kumar and SI E Shanibas rushed to the spot.
Due to darkness and hostile weather conditions, the officials failed to carry out search operations on Thursday. Hence, search operations were carried out with the help of coastal police and marine enforce on Friday morning.
A huge crowd including the families and relatives of the missing men arrived at the beach on Friday. Johnson who died in the accident was planning to fly to London from Thiruvananthapuram airport on Friday morning.
Police informed that others who accompanied the four men will be taken to the police station for recording statement.
