The driver could have slept while driving, causing the accident to take place.

Thrissur: Four pedestrians returning home after a temple festival were killed, while another was injured after a car ran over them near Kottanellur here in the district early on Tuesday.

The driver sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. The deceased were identified as Kottanellur natives Subran, Vipin, Balu and Prajitha.

The accident took place around 1 am in the morning while the victims were returning home on foot after taking part in a festival Tumbur Ayyappa temple.

The four victims belong to two different families. Subran (54) is the father of Prajitha (29) and Balu (52) is the father of Vipin (29). The injured pedestrian is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mala.

It is suspected that the driver fell asleep while driving, causing the accident.
