Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 35 employees of KSRTC-Swift were fined for defrauding passengers and embezzling ticket money. An inspection of the vigilance team nabbed the persons who were engaged in cheating.
There were a few conductor-cum-drivers of Swift buses who received the ticket amount on their personal accounts via UPI and did not provide tickets to passengers. The unaccounted money will eventually go into their pockets.
This came to light when a passenger from Bengaluru arrived at Thiruvananthapuram bus stand to collect lost baggage. When the station master asked him to produce the ticket, he showed the online transaction of the ticket amount. The station master immediately informed the matter to the vigilance and the defrauding staffers were caught red-handed during inspections.
Unaccounted cash was recovered from some of them. As many as 60 staffers were nabbed and 35 of them were fined Rs 5,000-Rs 7,000.
Since the Swift buses are fully reserved and long-distance, routine inspections are comparatively not done. Besides, the number of inspectors has drastically decreased from 650 to 350.
