Minister MV Govindan
Thiruvananthapuram: Minister M V Govindan planted 300 saplings of various trees on just 3.5 cents under Miyawaki technique on the premises of his official residence ‘Nest’. He is expecting the local governing bodies to take up the challenge for growing Miyawaki forest.
The demand to plant saplings in Miyawaki method and form ‘Jana Vanam’ (People’s forest) in the plots of local governing bodies was raised by the local self government department. But there were no efforts initiated for the project. But the minister decided to grow a forest on the small plot lying unused behind his official residence with saplings of huge trees. It has been four months since he planted them. Now, he had taken a picture of himself standing amid the plants and posted it on social media to remind the local governing bodies about ‘Jana Vanam’.
Over 45 varieties of trees, including Ashoka tree, Jackfruit tree, Mango tree, White pine, Indian rosewood and Indian gooseberry were planted by the minister at his residence.
